My Journey to Becoming a

Certified Health Coach

Personal Health

Foremost, in my decision to become a Certified Health Coach, was the experience I endured with my own health.  After being afflicted with what I now refer to as the “phantom sickness”, I sought numerous doctors for insight.  Unfortunately, each doctor’s visit led to further frustration and confusion as no diagnosis was determined.  My quest for answers continued and I decided to seek alternative health solutions.  After a few months of compliance to nutrition based treatment plans, my health started to improve.  I began to experience the first glimpses of relief and feelings of well-being which I hadn’t been acquainted with in quite some time.

Education

This experience piqued a desire to further research and understand population health in a more profound way.  I was compelled to pursue graduate studies and eventually earned a master’s degree in public health with an emphasis in health education and promotion.

Observations

While serving as a certified middle school teacher in Georgia public schools, I had the opportunity to make some critical observations.  Specific to my students, I noticed how poor eating habits seemed to compromise not only the academic, but also the behavioral success of many.  As I reflected upon my colleagues, I noticed how compromised immune systems resulted in recurrent fatigue and a succession of work day absences due to illness. This caused me to deeply ponder a possible missing link.

Health Coach

Specialized training as a Certified Health Coach has allowed me to identify the missing link in my observations. Equipped with knowledge that encompasses the "Four Pillars of Health", it is my mission to educate and empower everyone within my circle of influence about how they can apply these concepts in order to improve their personal health and ultimate quality of life.
